6.4 Why Mindshaping Matters for Social Robotics

At this point, it is not difficult to perceive how the mindshaping view can contribute to thinking about social robotics. On the one hand, characterizing social interactions from a different angle facilitates re-thinking some methodologies of social robotics. On the other hand, this view offers a manner to avoid the computational cost of implementing an internal model of others’ minds. Moreover, I believe there are specific problems and areas of social robotics which would be especially interesting to approach from the mindshaping perspective. Those are developmental social robotics, the relationship between social robotics and general intelligence robotics, and the development of companion robots.
